EDUCATION AND OUTREACH
The necessity of communicating science
I strongly believe in communication as a key element in science, and I am most passionate about science communication and outreach. From elementary school when my principal let me talk to classrooms about the spread of chytrid in amphibians, to my graduate career crafting public outreach around science. I have put communication as a focal point of my work. Science stands still without people who spread their passion and knowledge.

INSECT ZOO
From 2016-2018 I worked for the Iowa State University Insect Zoo where I reared over 100+ species of exotic arthropods and toured across the state of Iowa bringing the animals with me to give educational presentations. I had the time of my life meeting people young and old from all backgrounds of life and teaching them about arthropods, how they function, the important role they play in the environment, and how important they are to us humans.

PODCAST: Buggin' Out About
After my time with the Insect Zoo ended, my previous coworker, Kathleen Peterson, and I talked about how we missed giving presentations and getting to know people through our educational work. Together, we created a podcast called "Buggin' Out About" which focuses on what we call "the world of ahrthropodology." We have been heard in over 50 countries and have a 5 star rating on Apple Podcasts.

VOLUNTEER WORK

Nepris Inc. aims to connect volunteer educators to classrooms. I have been a part of Nepris Inc. since 2017, giving talks to classrooms virtually across the country. Below are links to talks I have given to classrooms through Nepris Inc.
